This past weekend I had the opportunity to act as a producer on an album featuring the wind band music of my former composition professor and mentor, Dr. Greg Danner. The album was recorded by the Tennessee Tech University Symphony Band directed by Joseph Hermann, and was produced by the award-winning Mark Morette of Mark Custom Recording.
What an experience!!
It was a truly outstanding project, with masterfully written music performed by some very talented young musicians. I always learn so much by sitting in the booth (or in this case makeup room) with the headphones on, listening so intently to every note; all the intonations, articulations, attacks and releases, every nuance about the greater art of musicality. I'm also always absolutely EXHAUSTED after doing so. Who would have thought LISTENING could be so tiring?
Greg Danner is such a great composer as well. I'm very lucky to have studied with him and been able to pick his brain, both as a student and now as a colleague.
The album should be released sometime later this year on the Mark Custom label.
