I found out that I am a finalist for the Harvey Phillips Award for Excellence In Composition, for my piece "Evolutions." The award will be announced at the 2014 International Tuba Euphonium Conference in Bloomington, IN this May! It's a huge honor to be considered for this award!
The Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble, directed by Winston Morris, performing "Evolutions" at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia. Evolutions from BelowTheHill on Vimeo. I was fortunate enough to attend the eighth appearance of the Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble at Carnegie Weill Hall this past Thursday evening. They offered a truly outstanding performance of a truly formidable chunk of music to a nearly sold-out crowd, who gave them not one but TWO standing ovations. I want to give a HUGE thanks to my former professor, mentor, and hero Winston Morris for his support of me and my music, as well as to the students in the group for putting in tremendous effort and time into working up not only my piece but the entire program. It was a concert I'll never forget! Jorijn van Hese, a Dutch euphoniumist, just completed a multi-track recording of my piece for euphonium choir, "Rush Hour." He's done a really fine job with it, and even turned the performance into a multi-camera YouTube video. Check out his first solo cd release, "Dutch Variations." Eufonix has released a new album titled "Nuclear Breakfast," including my piece "Furious Apis." It's a fun and challenging piece that also works as a euphonium quartet. Head on over to Potenza Music to pick up a copy. EVOLUTIONS
